NBA on CBS 1985 NBA Draft Lottery – COMPLETE VERSION

Infamous Fixed 1985 Draft

NBA on CBS coverage of the 1985 NBA Draft Lottery, the first ever. I got a lot of complaints about my original video not showing David Stern reaching into the drum for the alleged “frozen envolope” so I included the entire thing, as well as Dave Debusschere showing a Ewing jersey already made up. A prelude to the Knicks-Pacers rivalry of the 1990’s.

Fans of the bent envelope theory point to 4:50 of the video where the corner of the envelope that would eventually be picked #1 can be seen with a bent corner sticking up.

Then again, if he wanted the Knicks to win so much, not to mention get all that money for the league, how come he didn’t fix the lottery for the Knicks to win the right to draft LeBron James in 2003? LOL

It’s ashame they cut away from his face. I’d like to see if he was actually looking at what he was pulling.

stern is more of a fraud then pamela anderson’s tits.

Well, Stern pulled off the fix and got his dream wish of Ewing drafted to Knicks.

But in the end, justice would prevail. 15 years of Ewing, no championships for the Knicks!

I hate to say it to Knicks fans commenting on here, but that was deserved based on what Stern had done, he’s bringing the game of basketball to ruins! What a homer!

Uhhhh that is 100% false. The whole point of the lottery was so that bad teams would not tank games to get the number 1 pick because they weren’t even guaranteed the pick. It reduced the incentive for a bad team to tank because before it went to the team with the worst record.

It didn’t seem like any of the envelopes were bent when he placed them in there, and while the thing was spinning it looked like any envelope would have had ample chance to get bent. I dunno=.=

before you say it was fixed can anybody say certainly that one of the envelopes is bent when it is placed… i am looking from 4:44 and on and I can’t tell but there is no doubt that there is one that was bent while others were not. Interesting observation is it a coincidence or just was drawn up that way. So tell me how much did ewing going to to the knicks net the nba all i remember jordan this and jordan that from late 80’s into the 90’s.

yep this introduced the draft lottery and also bad teams started tanking games after this

agreed! When Stern was picking 1st envelope, he was looking for it! Just look a how he chose other envelopes without looking at them!!!

    5:30-5:31 was SO OBVIOUS!

Now, I’m just thinking logically now. The corner of the envelope was bent. Yes. The envelope picked was a major market team. Yes. The Knicks got the best player in the NBA Draft. Of course. But then again, the Knicks also didn’t win an NBA championship. Patrick Ewing spent his whole career without a ring, and this team only made it to the finals thanks to Jordan’s early retirement, and then his second one in 1999. I can’t say the NBA is actually rigged.

Freeze at like 5:31-5:32. It seems as though he’s making sure the envelope has a bent corner.

what the hell you talkin about son? this is the NBA lottery not the michigan state lottery

  20. By Triple3Deuce2 on Feb 15, 2009 | Reply

ohh, but the others conveniently weren’t bent, and conveniently the only bent one was the one chosen…what are the odds. 1/49 chance

Notice that he sort of exhales before reaching for the envelope? Why would he exhale unless he were feeling some sort of pressure, such as worrying that he might accidentally pick the wrong envelope and cost the league hundreds of millions of dollars.
