The film is far more disturbing than the story. She isn’t cornered into a wall in the story. She runs.

preposterous . . . Absurd, but we got to know that it was a tradition back then

Her husband’s sister? I missed that. To me appeared that she was talking about her own married daughter

Ummm… Actually, I think you missed something. She wanted her husband’s sisters to be included in the draw (so as to improve hers and her immediate family’s chances).

Yes, I saw it. I didn’t like it, too cold, too somber.

I either saw this before, or read about it. This story is eerily familiar. When I watched the SP episode, I didn’t recognize it. Must have been ages since I saw it.

However, I do like the message – just because our fathers did something, and their fathers did, and their fathers did, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. You have to question everything, not just follow blindly.

    Nice.

What kind of mother is she? She wanted her older daughter to have to draw but she didn’ have to because she drew with her husband’s family. So she would have let her own daughter be stoned just to save herself?

Have you seen the South Park episode: “Britney’s New Look”? At the end, they do a parody of this.

It’s about the power of conformity and traditions. To the people in this society, they think it’s normal; to us, it’s something twisted.
